Judge quits contempt hearing against slipper-hurling women
April 16th, 2009 - 12:01 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 15 (IANS) Justice B.N. Agrawal, the second senior most judge of the Supreme Court, Wednesday quit hearing a case of contempt of court charges against four women, one of whom had hurled a slipper at an apex court judge last month.
Justice Agrawal, heading the bench, which also included Justice G.S. Singhvi and Justice H.L. Dattu, quit the hearing as soon as the case came up before him.
The women had made various allegations against Justice Agrawal in recent times.
Solicitor General G.E. Vahanvati, who is also assisting the court in the matter, also withdrew from it saying the alleged contemnors had leveled serious allegations against him.
Pavitra Murali and her three colleagues of the Mumbai-based Boss School of Music are facing contempt of court proceedings after one of them hurled a slipper at Justice Arijit Pasayat March 20 while he was hearing their petition related to the school.
Police have registered several cases against school members, some of whom have been accused of being allegedly involved in prostitution and indulging in black magic.
