Chandigarh, May 27 (IANS) A spat between a Punjab and Haryana High Court judge and a senior lawyer, who himself retired as a judge from the Rajasthan High Court, reached the high court’s Chief Justice Vijender Kumar Jain Tuesday. Representatives of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association Tuesday met the chief justice after the spat between Justice Mehtab Singh Gill and senior lawyer J.C. Verma Monday during normal hearing of a case took an ugly turn.
Verma, who retired as high court judge from Rajasthan, filed a complaint to the Bar Association claiming that Justice Gill shouted at him in a property dispute case.
“We have been asked to submit a formal complaint Wednesday by the chief justice. We will wait for his decision and take further action accordingly. Such conduct by a judge is not acceptable to us,” Bar Association president Rupinder S. Khosla said here.
The association has made it clear to the chief justice that it expected all judges to be respectful to lawyers and avoid using harsh remarks.
Justice Gill and Verma had a heated argument Monday in a two decade-old property dispute case.

If the Indian public as well as the courts were to learn something from some of the US TV shows like “Judge Judy”, ” Judge Brown” etc. thousands of cases across India could be dealt with more expeditiously and the public would have better faith in the system.
