JPSC ex-secretary remanded to 14 days judicial custody (Lead)

Ranchi, Nov 10 (IANS) Former secretary and examination controller of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) was Wednesday sent to 14 days of judicial custody by a vigilance court of Ranchi in connection with the JPSC job scam.

Alis Usha Rani Singh, who was absconding since the past few months, was arrested from Hazaribagh district Tuesday night by the state vigilance bureau.

She was produced in vigilance court of Vinay Kant Khan, which sent her to 14 days in judicial custody.

According to vigilance sources, Usha Rani owns five dogs of foreign breed, each costing Rs.1-6 lakh. She spends nearly Rs.1.75 lakh every month on their maintenance and food.

A total of 172 administrative officers were appointed in 2007-08 through the JPSC exam. A vigilance probe into alleged irregularities in the appointments was ordered last year.

The vigilance department, in its preliminary report early this year, said that 38 candidates were appointed illegally. All of them have been sacked by the government.
