New Delhi, Nov 14 (IANS) A group of 18 kids with special needs were treated to a ride in the clouds on board an Air India jetliner on the occasion of Children’s Day Monday.

Thirteen students from Asha School for special children, which is run by the Army Wives Welfare Association and another five from government blind school for boys flew between Delhi and Lucknow.

“The children were accompanied by renowned singers who entertained them on board. They were served special meals on board and goody bags were gifted to them,” said an official statement by Air India.

The students boarded Air India’s Airbus A 321 flight from Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International airport Monday morning. The flight AI 411, was a scheduled flight carrying regular passengers as well and returned to Delhi around 11 a.m.

“I flew for the first time in my life today. It was a bit scary at the time of take-off because I could feel the plane running down the runway very fast but at the same time I was thrilled to bits,” said 14-year-old Rohit, who is blind.

The national carrier organises such joy trips for special children every year as part of its corporate social responsibility.

According to executive director (Northern region) of Air India, Vijay Paul, such trips are organized every year on Children’s Day.

Another airline — Jet Airways also took 80 underprivileged and special children on a joy ride in Mumbai in a Boeing jet.
