Johl, Muniyappa and Lahiri earn full card for 2009 Asian Tour
January 18th, 2009 - 11:22 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Rayong (Thailand), Jan 18 (IANS) Amandeep Johl made a strong return to form with a final round of four-under 69 that saw him emerge as the best Indian golfer in tied 19th place in the five-round Final Stage of the 2009 Asian Tour Qualifying School, that also earned him the full playing rights for the 2009 season.Johl, who has been suffering from a severe lack of form over the last year or so, finished with a 12-under 363 here Saturday. Johl had rounds of 75, 72, 75, 72 and 69.
Two other Indians, young C. Muniyappa (73, 75, 72, 73, 72) and Anirban Lahiri (72, 74, 74, 74, 72) also finished in the top-40 after the fifth and final round of the event in Rayong to earn full cards for the 2009 season of the Asian Tour. Muniyappa was tied 30th and Lahiri was tied 33rd.
Mohammed Siddikur Rahman (74, 73, 74, 69, 76) became the first professional player from Bangladesh to earn a full card after finishing within the top 40. The cut was declared at 366 on Saturday. Rahman plays as a full member on the Indian PGTI tour also, and he ended tied 33rd with Lahiri.
Johl finished ten strokes behind the winner, Daisuke Maruyama of Japan.
Himmat Singh Rai (77, 73, 74, 71, 72) missed the card by just one stroke, having totaled 367 in tied 41st place, while Rahil Gangjee (373) and Feroz Ali Mollah (375) missed out on full cards.
