Jilted lover throws acid on girl in Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 26 (IANS) A 21-year-old girl who was out for Diwali shopping in east Delhi suffered 20 percent burn injuries after a man threw acid on her face for refusing his marriage proposal, the police said Sunday. The victim was shopping in the Kalyanpuri market when the accused, Satish, came from behind and threw acid on her. He fled from the spot before anyone could intervene.

The police said the accused had followed the victim from her home to the market.

“Satish took out a bottle and threw acid on her face. The people in the market gathered at the spot after she started crying in pain,” said a police official.

The victim was taken to the Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital from where she was referred to the Guru Tegh Bahadur (GTB) hospital for treatment. According to the police, the victim has suffered 20 percent burn injuries on her face but her condition was stable.

The police said the accused and the victim were working as technicians in a television manufacturing unit. Satish had proposed to the victim but she spurned his proposals, they said.

“The victim also reported harassment to his company head but apparently no action was taken. We have registered her complaint and appropriate actions are being taken. Teams have been fanned out to arrest Satish,” the official added.
