Jharkhand asked to set up child rights commission
January 20th, 2011 - 10:02 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Jan 20 (IANS) The Jharkhand High Court Thursday directed the state government to form the state child rights commission within one month, according to a child rights NGO here.A statement by the Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) NGO said: “We had filed a PIL in the Jharkhand High Court seeking a clear action plan for the identification, release and rehabilitation of child bonded labourers in the state. A large number of children are trafficked from Jharkhand to metros like New Delhi and Mumbai every year”.
“On hearing this PIL today (Thursday), the honourable justice of the Jharkhand High Court directed the state government to form state child rights commission within one month and submit a report to the court,” it added.
“This direction is a first step towards preventing child labour,” it further said.
