New Delhi, Nov 29 (IANS) Four masked robbers barged into the house of a jeweller in east Delhi and took away cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees after holding the entire family at gun point, police said Tuesday. The robbers even took the jeweller’s young son as hostage as they escaped.

The incident took place early Tuesday when the family members of the jeweller, Ravinder 35, were asleep.

The robbers entered the first floor of the house in New Ashok Nagar through the staircase whose door was not locked, police said.

The officer said that the assailants kept hostage the family members of the victim at gun point and took away Rs.50,000 cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees.

“When Ravinder tried to resist the robbers, he was stabbed on his leg,” said a senior police officer.

Ravinder runs an artificial jewellery shop at the ground floor of his house and stays with his wife, Geeta, son Rahul and two other children at the first floor.

Leaving the house, the robbers took Rahul hostage at gun point and threatened the family of dire consequences if they inform police.

About 200 metres away from the house, the robbers released the boy and fled.

As soon as Rahul arrived home, Ravinder called police to report the robbery.
