Jeev not in favour of Super Series golfFebruary 5th, 2009 - 4:23 pm ICT by IANS
New Delhi, Feb 5 (IANS) Jeev Milkha Singh, Asia No. 1, and one of the hottest golfers from the region, favours a dialogue, rather than a confrontation between the Asian Tour and the proposed Super Series.Jeev, who just returned from a three-week Middle-East swing, made it clear that the right way would be for the Professional Golf Association (PGA) of Australia - which is backing the Super Series - to either join hands with Asian Tour or at least have a ‘dialogue’ to find the best way forward.
“Even if they have a difference, they should start a dialogue and join hands,” said Jeev on the lines of the institution of Rolex awards. He is also the brand Ambassador for the watch manufacturer.
PGA of Australia recently announced the new six-event series, claiming the support of golf associations from China, Japan and Korea.
Asian Tour, which runs golf in Asia, is against the series, which it feels is a violation of the agreements between all major tours of the world. It has in recent statements lambasted the Super Series.
However, Japan, who were initially supposed to be part of the series, have decided not to join in.
Jeev added: “Asia is a big market, they should try and make this game big at the regional level. That will benefit all players and in these times it better to work together rather than go different ways.”
