Jayaram, Kashyap crash out of Swiss Open
March 15th, 2012 - 8:16 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 15 (IANS) Ajay Jayaram, Parupalli Kashyap and Sourabh Varma lost their men’s singles first round matches at the Swiss Open Grand Prix badminton event in Basel.
Jayaram went down to Portugal’s Pedro Martins 16-21, 16-21 while Kashyap lost to Vietnam’s seventh seed Tien Minh Nguyen 13-21, 18-21 in the matches played Wednesday.
Varma proved no match for Wan Ho Shon of South Korea, losing 10-21, 9-21.
The women’s doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa also suffered defeat in the opening round. They lost to Japan’s Shizuka Matsuo and Mami Naito 21-16, 18-21, 10-21.
Saina Nehwal plays her women’s singles second round match later in the day.
