New Delhi, Aug 18 (IANS) Kolkata-based designer Jaya Rathore, who takes inspiration from Indian art and craft, has once again gone back into time by using heritage weaves and embroideries to prepare her collection for the upcoming edition of Bridal Asia.

The three-day event, known as a one-stop destination for brides and grooms, will start here Sep 30.

“The collection will feature an exploration of heritage weaves and embroideries that have resulted in pieces which possess an inherent heirloom value,” Jaya told IANS, adding that her designs are for all age groups.

“A wedding is an extended celebration with family and friends; so my varied range of beautifully embellished outfits offers dress options to everyone across all age groups. Heritage embroideries, revived techniques and old folk motifs are brought to life in contemporary shapes to befit today’s fashion-conscious people,” she added.

One can find embroidered lehengas teamed with embellished cholis and richly ornate saris in her offering.

The high point of her collection are the lehengas, which are heavily embroidered but very light in weight and can be easily carried by beautiful brides any time.

“This technique has been used after extensive research work. I strongly feel that brides often find it uneasy to move around with heavy ghagras (long embellished skirts) so these lehengas will prove to be a nice replacement,” Jaya said.

“Maintaining the delicacy of fabrics with an interesting mix of nets along with woven Ikat, the collection is mastered with craftsmanship and textures that are developed specially for the collection,” she added.

Bridal Asia, started in 1999, showcases a blend of modern and traditional, as also classical and contemporary at an affordable price.
