New Delhi, Dec 28 (IANS) Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama arrived here Monday for the annual bilateral summit with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh that will focus on expanding economic and strategic ties between the two countries.
Hatoyama flew in here from Mumbai where he met the victims of 26/11 terror attacks and interacted with top business leaders.
He was warmly received at the Delhi airport by Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao.
Manmohan Singh will host a private dinner for Hatoyama at his residence Monday evening.
The two leaders will hold delegation-level talks Tuesday.
The two countries are set to finalise an action plan to add more content to a security cooperation agreement signed during Manmohan Singh’s visit to Tokyo last year.
The visit will focus on giving a political push to free trade area negotiations and enhance Japanese investment in India’s infrastructure sector.
Hatoyama’s maiden trip to India comes against the backdrop of Tokyo’s bid to recast its relations in Asia and a desire to forge a stronger security and economic partnership with India, widely seen as an emerging Asian power along with China.
