Jalandhar passport office employees sentenced for forgery

Jalandhar, Sep 9 (IANS) A court in this Punjab city Tuesday sentenced four employees of the Regional Passport Office (RPO) to three years’ in prison for tampering with official records and helping people get forged passports.The sentence came nearly nine years after the case was registered in 1999 against the passport office staff following a complaint by the then regional passport officer.

The employees include superintendent Seetal Kaur and ad hoc employees Jatinder Kumar, Rakesh Kumar and Krishan Lal.

The officials were accused of helping one woman to obtain two passports in different names. They had also helped a Germany-based Indian get a passport from here despite staying in that country.

The officials were also involved in a scam in which certain files from the RPO here went missing.
