Jaiswal to head Congress’s Uttar Pradesh poll panel

Sonia Gandhi New Delhi, Oct 10 (IANS) Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal will head the Congress’s election campaign committee for the 2012 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi approved Monday the panel in which state Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi is the convenor and senior leader Pramod Tiwari the co-convenor.

Among others on the panel are Minister of State for Rural Development Pradeep Jain Aditya, Moradabad MP Mohammad Azharuddin, Domariaganj MP Jagdambika Pal, Barabanki MP P.L. Punia, who is also the chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribals.

Former Samajwadi Party leader and Ferozabad MP Raj Babbar is also on the poll campaign panel.

Besides, senior leader Salim Sherwani, Vishwajit P. Singh, Rajaram Pal and Begum Noor Bano are also there, according to a release issued by Congress general secretary Janardan Dwivedi.

The party has already announced two lists of candidates for the asssembly polls to give them enough time to campaign.
