Jagan group legislators seek acceptance of resignations
September 6th, 2011 - 7:33 pm ICT by IANSHyderabad, Sep 6 (IANS) Andhra Pradesh legislators loyal to YSR Congress party chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy Tuesday called on the state governor to press for acceptance of their resignations.
As many as 25 members of the assembly submitted a memorandum to Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan urging him to direct assembly Speaker N. Manohar to accept their resignations. Four legislators of the Jagan group were absent for various reasons.
A day after meeting Manohar, the delegation of legislators called on the governor to brief him the circumstances under which they submitted their resignations.
A total of 29 legislators, including 26 of the ruling Congress, had submitted their resignations on Aug 22 to protest the mentioning of late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s name in a Central Bureau of Investigation’s FIR.
The CBI has mentioned YSR’s name in the alleged illegal assets case registered against his son Jaganmohan Reddy.
YSR Congress party leader P. Subhash Chandra Bose told reporters after meeting the governor that the Congress government was using the CBI to tarnish the image of the late chief minister and also to target Jaganmohan Reddy.
Bose warned that if the government failed to stop the witch-hunt, the people would be forced to revolt. He claimed that former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi’s name was not included in Bofors case after his death.
The legislators also urged the governor to direct the government to file the counter-affidavit in the cases against Jagan and realty group Emaar in the high court as CBI has made it a party in both the cases.
