IUML to elect its national president Sunday

Kozhikode, Sep 13 (IANS) The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) will elect its national president at a meeting in New Delhi Sunday. The post fell vacant due to the death of then party president G.M. Banatwala in June, a party official said.”The meeting of the national executive will begin at the Constitution Club in New Delhi at 3 p.m.,” E.T. Muhammed Basheer, IUML Kerala state secretary, told IANS.

Basheer said he did not expect an election for the national president’s post. “The decision will be unanimous,” he said.

According to reports, the names of IUML Kerala unit president Panakkad Muhammadali Shihab Thangal, national vice-president K.M. Kader Mohideen and national general secretary and Minister of State for Foreign Affairs E. Ahamed figure in the list of probables.

Kader Mohideen is an MP from Vellore in Tamil Nadu, who won the election as a DMK candidate.
