ITBP commando team to leave for Congo

New Delhi, Aug 5 (IANS) The sixth batch of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), comprising 125 members, will be leaving for a UN mission in Congo, an official said Friday.

According to ITBP, the contingent would leave in two phases with the first batch of 15 members advance party reaching Congo Sunday and the main party consisting of 110 members to be inducted Aug 29.

“The contingent comprises of highly-experienced commandos drawn from different units of the force with experience of carrying out variety of operations in difficult terrain, experts in counter-insurgency operations, election duties, banking security and the like,” an ITBP spokesperson said.

“After induction of the sixth batch, the fifth batch which served in the UN mission for one year will return to India,” he added.
