Iraqi minister survives assassination attempt
April 3rd, 2011 - 5:58 pm ICT by IANSBaghdad, April 3 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Iraqi Minister for Industry and Minerals Ahmed Nassir Al Karbuli survived an assassination attempt by unidentified gunmen, an official said Sunday.
The incident occurred in the western province of Anbar, which was for a long time a major stronghold of Al Qaeda.
The attack was launched early Sunday on the road leading from Baghdad to the Syrian border, a source in the country’s security forces said.
“The minister’s car and his motorcade were ambushed. After a roadside bomb explosion, the militants opened fire on the motorcade. In a shootout, one of the security guards was killed and four others wounded. The minister was unhurt in the attack,” the source said.
