Iran’s parliament not to question Ahmadinejad
November 3rd, 2011 - 7:17 am ICT by IANSTehran, Nov 3 (IANS) Iranian parliament will not question President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad after a motion, submitted Sunday for questioning him, failed as three lawmakers withdrew their names Wednesday, Press TV reported.
The motion only carried 70 signatures and fell short of the legal quorum needed to summon the president, Xinhua quoted Mohammad-Hossein Farhangi, a member of the parliament presiding board as saying in the report.
As per the Iranian constitution, the president must appear in the parliament to answer lawmakers’ questions when at least one fourth of all the 290 lawmakers sign a motion summoning him.
On Sunday, a new motion signed by 73 lawmakers was presented to the Iranian parliament presiding board calling for questioning Ahmadinejad.
It was the second time that a motion was presented to the presiding board to question the president.
