Tehran, July 13 (Xinhua) Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Sunday said he was ready to talk with US President George W. Bush directly. “As I have previously announced, I am ready to talk with Mr. Bush directly,” Ahmadinejad said after a cabinet meeting.

Responding to the question whether Iran and the US were willing to hold direct talks, Ahmadinejad said his government preferred direct talks with the US without intermediary, official IRNA news agency reported.

“Tehran does not need any mediator for talks with Washington and is well-prepared for direct talks,” he was quoted as saying.

The US severed its ties with Iran in 1980 following the Islamic Revolution.

Washington, which says Tehran is developing nuclear bombs under the guise of a nuclear power programme, got the UN Security Council to impose three sets of sanctions on the Islamic country over its refusal to stop uranium enrichment.
