IPL betting racket busted, two held
April 22nd, 2011 - 1:24 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 21 (IANS) Two men were arrested for allegedly running a betting racket on the matches of the Indian Premier League, police said Thursday.
Ashok Kumar, 46, and Lalit Goyal, 38, were arrested Tuesday from a resort on GT-Karnal Road.
“They were operating the betting racket from a room in the resort during the IPL cricket matchh between Deccan Chargers and Delhi Daredevils,” Deputy Commissioner of police Ashok Chand said.
According to the police, they had received bets of Rs.70 lakhs on the match by the time of the raid.
“In the IPL cricket matches so far, total bets accepted by them amount to more than Rs.3.5 crore,” Chand said.
