New Delhi, Sep 4 (IANS) The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has decided to hold elections for Hockey India (HI), the new set-up to run the sport in the country, by the end of this year. The ad-hoc committee has been running the affairs of the sport since IOA superseded the Indian Hockey Federation in April.

“We are going to conduct the election by the year-end. We do not want to run hockey through the ad-hoc set-up for long,” IOA secretary general Randhir Singh told IANS.

Asked how it can be done since sacked IHF president K.P.S Gill is fighting a case against IOA in Delhi High Court, Randhir Singh said: “we want the matter to be settled as soon as possible. We do not want to get into any controversy.”

“We are soon having a meeting with the state associations and everything will be discussed in details.”

The IOA had superseded IHF after a bribery scandal involving general secretary K. Jothikumaran.

IOA then decided to rechristen IHF as Hockey India, which will comprise both men’s and women’s federations.
