Rome, Feb 18 (IANS) Inter Milan suffered a humiliating 0-3 home defeat against Bologna in the Italian Serie A football, leaving them without a win in their last five matches.

Veteran striker Marco Di Vaio scored two goals in one minute to put the visitors firmly in control in the first half before Robert Acquafresca sealed the points five minutes from time Friday.

In a very unusual move, Inter president Massimo Moratti walked out at half-time when his side was still 0-2 down, Xinhua reported.

Inter head coach Claudio Ranieri could only “apologise to our president and fans” after the humiliation but refused to resign.

“We are going through a difficult period,” he said.

“They tried to cheer us on and then the third goal naturally prompted all that frustration to emerge,” he said.

Ranieri was asked whether he would consider handing in his resignation after five defeats in the last six games.

“No, I’m not planning anything. We are all united in wanting to find the solution. It’s difficult to get back up, but we must,” Xinhua quoted him as saying.

The early signs were actually positive for Inter, with Maicon heading a corner straight at Jean-Francois Gillet in the 18th minute.

It was Maicon again who flashed a header wide off Gillet’s post on the half-hour mark before Diego Forlan was denied by Bologna’s goalkeeper.

Bologna rarely ventured into the Inter half. But when they did so in the 37th minute, they made it count.

Diego Perez found Di Vaio in plenty of room to his right. The Bologna striker cut in past Yuti Nagatomo before shooting low past Julio Cesar.

Almost straight from the kick-off, a big mistake by Andrea Ranocchia enabled Di Vaio to double Bologna’s lead.

He was looking over the wrong shoulder when he chested a long ball back towards his own goalkeeper. Di Vaio was lurking behind his other shoulder and he raced in to slot the ball past Cesar.

With five minutes to go, another error by Ranocchia gifted Acquafresca the ball and he beat both Nagatomo and Lucio before scoring low past Julio Cesar.

In another match, Napoli won 3-0 at Fiorentina.
