Integrated approach needed to fight Maoists: Raman Singh

New Delhi, July 14 (IANS) Maoist-affected states needed an “integrated action plan” to fight left wing rebels, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh said here Wednesday.
“State governments are dealing with the issue in their own way. An integrated action plan should be devised and all of us should be on one common point,” Raman Singh said.
The Chhattisgarh chief minister was speaking to reporters before attending the meeting of seven Maoist-affected states chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
He said such meetings were helpful in devising a strategy to fight Leftist rebels. All Maoist-affected states, he added, should recognise left wing extremism as the biggest security threat and the need to combat it.
Attending the meeting at the prime minister’s 7, Race Course Road residence were the chief ministers of Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, the governor of Jharkhand, which is under president’s rule, and a minister from West Bengal.
Manmohan Singh convened the meeting to review government policy and discuss strategy to counter one of the greatest internal security threats to India.
