New Delhi, Jan 20 (IANS) The four bank robbers, who were injured in police firing here Monday evening, are reportedly terrorizing the doctors and hospital staff at the AIIMS Trauma Care Centre, where they are undergoing treatment.The gang’s chief Satya Prakash especially seems to be intimidating doctors and staff in the ward where he is being treated.

“The staff feels so intimidated by him… he looks at you in a certain manner and stares. It is unnerving and the staff feels uncomfortable in carrying out the treatment,” Nirmal Thakur, spokesperson for the Trauma Centre of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), told IANS.

Four men, whom police identified as Satya Prakash, Shakeel, Sonu and Nadir — the last said to be of Afghan origin, opened fire with automatic pistols at a police team near the south Delhi residential colony Green Park Monday evening.

The gang to which these four belong, was involved in robbing a bank cash van in R.K. Puram, a robbery in Greater Kailash-I and Malviya Nagar and a bank robbery in Samaipur Badli over the past two months, according to the police.

The policemen, who had been keeping an eye on and tracking the gang’s movements for some time, retaliated when the four gang members opened fire. Both sides exchanged gunfire for around 12 minutes - causing a scare among scores of bystanders in the busy Green Park area.

The injured criminals were then taken to the trauma centre.

A team of twenty odd armed police guards are currently manning every exit and entry point at the facility to prevent any possibility of escape.

“Satya Prakash, 30, was hit on his left arm and thigh where his bone is fractured. Shakeel, 24, took a bullet through the chest and was admitted bleeding but is stable now.

“Nadir, 24 who is on our records as Naseem, was hit by three bullets - he has sustained fracture injuries on right thigh and left arm. Sonu, who got a bullet in his chest is the most critical of them all and was operated on by doctors Monday night. He is stable now and is on a ventilator,” said Biplab Mishra, assistant professor of surgery at the centre.

Apart from Sonu, the other three are in stable and conscious condition. Satya Prakash and Naseem have been shifted to the orthopaedic ward.

“The police are carrying out parallel enquiries with them,” Mishra said.

Delhi Police commissioner Y.S. Dadwal and other senior police officials also visited the hospital at noon.
