Infosys acquires software business of New Zealand firm
June 8th, 2011 - 10:01 pm ICT by IANSBangalore, June 8 (IANS) Indian IT bellwether Infosys Ltd. Wednesday announced acquiring the software solutions business of Gen-i in New Zealand for an unspecified amount.
“We have entered into a strategic partnership with Gen-I to acquire its software solutions practice and offered positions to its 110 employees who will continue to be based at Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch in New Zeland,” the company said in a statement from Auckland.
The partnership will also create a new choice for Australasian enterprises seeking local expertise in IT services, including consulting, business transformation and cloud-based offerings, the partnership.
“The partnership creates a new market proposition for local businesses by helping them to transform for competitive advantage, with new ways to innovate, reduce costs and increase the effectiveness of their people, processes and technology,” Infosys Australia & New Zealand chief executive Jackie Korhonen said in the statement.
With the addition of 110 Gen-i employees, the total headcount of Infosys in New Zealand will go to 150 in June and to 180 soon as it plans hire 30 more people.
“Since launching our New Zealand office 18 months ago, we have been studying the market to find the right strategic partner. Our partnership with Gen-i makes sense as we share core values and complement each other’s strengths to fill gaps in the marketplace. We will be adding our global R&D;, business transformation and industry-specific capabilities to an iconic New Zealand brand,” Korhonen pointed out.
Gen-i Australasia chief executive Chris Quin said the new partnership would create new value for enterprises in the region by combining the global expertise and best practices of Infosys and local relationships of his company.
“There has been a lot of consolidation in the IT services market recently, leaving an opportunity for a strong local partnership which can deliver world class capabilities in hosted and integrated ICT solutions,” Quin noted.
The partnership will also increase the range of solutions Gen-i can deliver to trans-Tasman clients, and support its strategy of becoming Australasia’s most preferred ICT hosted services and an integrated solutions provider.
