August 26th, 2011 - 7:00 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 26 (IANS) India’s exports of marine products rose 33.95 percent to $2.8 billion in 2010-11, led by sharp increase in the demand for frozen shrimp in foreign markets, official data showed Friday.
Exports aggregated to 8,13,091 tonnes valued at $2.85 billion. It is 19.85 percent higher in quantity and 33.95 percent higher in US dollar-terms, the ministry of commerce and industry said in a statement.
“The increased production of Vannamei shrimp, increased productivity of Black Tiger shrimp and better price realisation of major items like Cuttlefish, Shrimp and Squid helped us to gain such a higher export turnover,” it said.
The European Union continues to be the largest market with a share of 26.78 percent, followed by Southeast Asia 16.43 percent, China 15.41 percent, US 15.35 percent and Japan 13.06 percent.
