New Delhi, Oct 10 (IANS) Lauding US President Barack Obama’s winning the Nobel Peace Prize, US ambassador Timothy J. Roemer Saturday said his message of change and hope has resonated among the people of India.
“The president has been acknowledged for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples all over the world,” Roemer said in a statement.
“As I travel throughout India’s cities, villages, and rural communities, I meet people every day who respond very directly to President Obama’s message of change and hope,” he said.
“We see this change taking shape throughout India, and through the broadening and deepening ties shared by our two countries,” said Roemer.
“These strong and growing ties are reflected in the warm relationship between Prime Minister (Manmohan) Singh and President Obama, and between the peoples of our two great nations,” he added.
Describing Obama as “a promise of the human spirit’s bold potential”, the US envoy also alluded to Mahatma Gandhi’s influence on the American president.
Roemer, who represented the South Bend area in Indiana in the US House of Representatives from 1991 to 2003, endorsed Obama during his primary campaign, helping him become the first Democrat to carry the midwestern state in 44 years.
