Indians lug extra stuff they don’t use on vacation
June 13th, 2011 - 6:31 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, June 13 (IANS) A report by global online travel trade major Expedia Monday said that a good percentage of Indians travelling abroad on vacation pay an extra amount ranging from Rs.2,250 to nearly Rs.9,000 as excess baggage fee.
A report based on the survey involving 500 Indian travellers said: “Nearly 40 percent of Indians (surveyed) have paid excess baggage fees while travelling.”
According to the annual Expedia baggage survey, on an average Indian travellers shelled out as much as Rs.7,500 on excess baggage fee for items like clothes that, a majority of respondents said, were unused during their trip.
“Proper planning and packing smart can help consumers save money, thereby giving them the extra cash to spend an additional day holidaying,” said Manmeet Ahluwalia, marketing head, Expedia.co.in.
The report said that certain changes in packing and specially-created travel packs for the destinations could help in avoiding the extra-luggage expense.
