Indians Diptayan and Akshya in joint lead in World Youth

Govinda Caldas Novas (Brazil), Nov 23 (IANS) India’s Diptayan Ghosh (under-14 Open) and Bommini Akshya (girls under-8) are joint leaders after fifth round matches in the ongoing World Youth Chess Championship.

Dipatyan drew his match against Fide Master Bellahcene Bilel of France while Akshya got better of teammate Tanishka Koita in the fifth round here Tuesday.

In the under-18 Open category, International Master (IM) Debashish Das was held by Grandmaster (GM) Fedoseev Ladmir of Russia while Nandhidhaa, sole leader after fourth round matches in under-16 Girls’ category, suffered her first defeat in the championship against top seed Ziaziulkina Nastassia of Belarus.

Under-10 leaders Rathanvel and Rakesh Kumar Jena succumbed to defeat against Zhu Yi of China and Li Ruifeng of the US respectively after a rest day.

Under-8 Girls: Bommini Mounika Akshaya (5) beat Tanishka Kotia (3); Sabzi Tina of Iran (3) lost to Lakshmi C (4); Zhao Chenyi of USA (3) lost to Salonika Saina (4).

Under-8 Open: Ram Aravind L N (4.5) beat Noritsyn Sergey of Canada (3.5); Medvedyk Volodymir of Ukraine (4) beat Ritam Nag (3); Rojas Steven of Peru (3) beat Sai Krishna S (2).

Under-10 Girls: Priyanka K (4) beat Devagharan Devina of USA (3); Du Toit Stephanie (3) lost to Bansi Prathima M (4); Lalla Kriti of South Africa (3) lost to WFM Tarini Goyal (4); Mostacero Velarde Isabella Maribel of Peru (2) lost to Bidhar Rutumbara (3).

Under-10 Open: FM Mitrabha Guha (3.5) beat Barreto Marcos Vinicius de Moraes of Brazil (2.5); Li Ruifeng of USA (5) beat Rakesh Kumar Jena (4); Romero Gonzalez Juan Ignacio of Chile (3.5) beat Anand Nadar (2.5); Zhu Yi of China (5) beat Rathanvel V S (4); Rocha Lucas Pereira (3) beat CM Nitish Belurkar (2).

Under-12 Girls: WFM Ivana Maria Furtado (3.5) drew with Unuk Laura of Slovenia (3.5); WCM Riya Savant (3.5) drew with Tohirjonova Gulruhbegim of Uzbekistan (3.5); Oreshko Mariya of USA (4) beat Priyamvada Karamcheti (3); Wong Kit of Macau (2) lost to WCM Tejaswini Sagar (2.5).

Under-12 Open: Perske Thore of Germany (3.5) lost to Karthikeyan Murali (4.5); Gledura Benjamin of Aravindh Chithambaram V R (4) drew with Chiku Ratte Olivier Kenta of Canada (4.5); CM Abhimanyu Puranik (4) drew with FM Rambaldi Francesco of Italy (3.5); Hetul Shah (4) beat Tang Andrew of USA (3); FM Harshal Shahi (3) lost to FM Xiong Jeffrey of USA (4).

Under-18 Girls: WIM Saduakassova Dinara of Kazakhstan beat WFM Saranya J (3); A Akshaya (2.5) drew with Morales Flores Monserrat of Chile (2.5); Visalatchi R (2.5) beat Govindasamy Seshni of South Africa (1.5).
