Indian soldier held with drugs
May 17th, 2011 - 12:40 pm ICT by IANSBathinda (Punjab), May 17 (IANS) Two men, including an Indian Army soldier, have been arrested from the cantonment area here for possessing one kg of heroin, police said Tuesday.
Lance Naik Lalit Kumar and Rattan Lal, working as a tailor, were arrested Monday.
“We received a tip-off that Lalit had brought this contraband from Bhiwani, his home town, last month and he was trying to sell it to some local smuggler. Rattan was also assisting him in this crime,” Bathinda’s Senior Superintendent of Police Sukhchain Singh Gill said.
“Both of them are employed with the army. The seized contraband is worth Rs.5 crore in the international market. Lalit was under some debt, therefore he tried to make money through this trade,” added Gill.
The two men have been booked under various sections of the Narcotics Drug and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
