New Delhi, Aug 12 (IANS) The Indian football team will leave Saturday night from Kolkata for its maiden Caribbean tour via London.

Unrest in London, which has been wrecked by riots and looting in the last four days, forced the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to postpone the trip by a day. The team was scheduled to leave Friday night and were slated to stay overnight in London.

The travel plan was tweaked Friday and instead of an overnight stay the team will have to wait for a few hours at London’s Gatwick airport before catching a connecting flight to Bridgetown, from where they will take a chartered flight to St.Kitts.

National team director Shubhankar Mukherjee said the Indian High Commissioner in London has been informed about the team’s travel plan in case of emergency.

“The team will take an 8.30 p.m. flight from Kolkata to Dubai and from there to Gatwick. The boys won’t have to stay overnight in London. We have also informed the High Commission in London about the team’s travel plan,” said Mukherjee.

The Indian team will play three international friendlies in the Caribbean. They will face Barbados (August 17), Trinidad & Tobago (August 21), and Guyana (Aug 24).
