New Delhi, May 12 (IANS) An Indian American student was found dead Monday with head injuries and stab wounds on the neck in his rented room in north Delhi near the Delhi University. Kenan Mehra, 21, was found lying in a pool of blood in the bathroom of his second-loor Hudson Lane rented accommodation in Mukherjee Nagar area when the police, alerted by his landlord and friends, broke open the door.

Mehra was from North Carolina and was in the capital for about a month doing research in philosophy at Delhi University, the police said.

The house, which he had hired April 8, was bolted from inside. Before moving to the house, Mehra was staying with his relatives.

Police officials said that Mehra could have died two days ago. No valuables were missing, they said. Mehra’s father, Anchal Mehra, is of Indian origin, while his mother is US born.

A case of murder has been registered at the Mukherjee Nagar police station.

“Mehra’s friends came to his house when they could not get in touch with him for more than 36 hours despite repeated efforts. They informed his landlord, who informed us,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest Delhi) Manish Agrawal told IANS.

“We cannot say whether he was murdered or he committed suicide. We are awaiting the autopsy report,” he added.
