Indian Air Force to set up base in Chhattisgarh
January 7th, 2010 - 9:53 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Raipur, Jan 7 (IANS) The Chhattisgarh government Thursday agreed, in principle, to the Indian Air Force’s (IAF) request for 2,500-3,000 acres for setting up an air base in the state, officials said.
The state government gave its go-ahead to the proposal when senior IAF officers called on Chief Minister Raman Singh.
“Singh has agreed in principle to the IAF proposal for setting up its first base in the state for which they said they need 2,500-3,000 acres,” an official said.
The IAF officers told the chief minister that they have short-listed four sites in Bilaspur, Durg, Mahasamund and Raipur districts and they will select the final site very soon.
Singh assured the IAF team that the state government would ensure that land was handed over as soon as possible for early setting up of the air force base in the state that came into existence in November 2000 after a split of Madhya Pradesh.
