India welcomes Fatah-Hamas agreement
May 6th, 2011 - 10:57 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, May 6 (IANS) India Friday welcomed the signing of an agreement between the two rival Palestinian political forces, Hamas and Fatah, and hoped it will lead to peace and stability in the region.
“The government of India welcomes the reconciliation agreement between Fatah and Hamas which ends the differences between the West Bank and Gaza. We hope that this would promote the realization of the aspirations of the Palestinian people and lead to peace and stability in the region,” said a statement issued by the ministry of external affairs here.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah group inked a deal Wednesday with bitter rival Hamas to end their long-running feud and form an interim government ahead of elections within a year.
