India top medals tally in South Asian Beach Games
October 14th, 2011 - 4:20 pm ICT by IANSHambantota (Sri Lanka), Oct 14 (IANS) India finished at the top of the medals tally in the inaugural South Asian Beach Games that concluded here Friday.
India stood first with 11 gold, nine silver and seven bronze medals in the seven-day tournament.
Hosts Sri Lanka finished second in the Games by winning the last gold in the women’s netball, beating India in this southern Sri Lankan coastal city, Xinhua reported.
The Sri Lankan women’s team dominated from the start of the game with nearly a double score of 13 to 7 at the end of the first half. Though India returned to the game collecting few points in line at the start of the second half, it was too late as the Sri Lankans went on to score 24 while India could only collect 17 points.
With the final gold, Sri Lanka collected nine gold, nine silver and seven bronze medals.
