India to raise terror threat in talks with Bangladesh
November 18th, 2011 - 5:32 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 18 (IANS) India is expected to raise its concerns over the terror outfit Harkat-ul-Jihadi Islami (HuJI) trying to regroup in Bangladesh when the home secretaries of the countries meet here for two-day security talks beginning Saturday.
The Indian side will also seek deportation of United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) leader Anup Chetia who is in Bangladesh since his arrest in 1997 and has sought political asylum there, according to sources in the home ministry.
Other issues expected to be raised during the talks between Home Secretary R.K. Singh and his Bangladeshi counterpart Manzoor Hussain include cross-border terror, police to police co-operation in capacity building and training, a home ministry spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that infiltration of illegal immigrants, human trafficking, smuggling of narcotics and other goods would also be discussed.
The sources said India would ask Bangladesh to check the activities of HuJI, the terror outfit suspected to be involved in recent attacks in India, including the September bomb blast outside the Delhi High Court.
Indian security agencies suspect that HuJI was trying to regain a foothold in Bangladesh after the government there cracked down on the outfit.
This will be the 12th round of home secretary level talks between the two countries.
Prior to the talks, a joint working group of the two countries will hold deliberations on finalising the list of prisoners in each others’ jails who have completed their terms. The lists will be exchanged during the secretary level talks.
