India thanks Afghanistan after rescue of consular employee
February 10th, 2011 - 12:10 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Feb 9 (IANS) India Wednesday expressed its gratitude to the Afghan authorities after a kidnapped local employee of the Indian consulate in Jalalabad was rescued.External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vishnu Prakash said that a Afghan employee of the Jalalabad consulate was kidnapped near his home on the evening of Feb 5, during which he also received bullet injuries.
The Afghan authorities immediately launched a search and rescue mission and located the abductors near Jalalabad.
While a police operation was underway to secure his release, the employee managed to escape Tuesday morning, said Prakash, adding that the Indian consulate will give “all possible assistance” to the employee who is being treated for his injuries.
“At this stage, precise details of the abduction, search and rescue operation and identity or motive of the abductors are not available. Nevertheless, we would like to express our deep gratitude and appreciation to the Afghan authorities, especially Governor H.E. Gul Agha Sherzai of Nangarhar province, the chief of police and the ministry of interior in Kabul, for the professionalism, seriousness and alacrity with which they acted against the abductors,” said Prakash.
