India not isolated in world forums, asserts Krishna
March 16th, 2011 - 5:40 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 16 (IANS) External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna Wednesday disagreed with the opposition that India was getting increasingly isolated in world forums, and said the massive support it received in the UN Security Council (UNSC) polls showed the country has arrived at the centre stage of global affairs.
Replying to a Lok Sabha debate on the demands for grant for the external affairs ministry, Krishna said he was rather surprised that the opposition was claiming India had been isolated.
The demands were passed by the Lok Sabha after a voice vote.
“I am rather surprised. I very strongly strike a note of disagreement,” he said, referring to the elections to the UN Security Council’s non-permanent seat in October last year when it obtained 187 of the 190 votes polled.
“If we were isolated, could India have got such a massive support? Is it isolation of India or is it a message to the entire world and to the cynics that India has arrived at the centre stage of global affairs?” he said.
