India not fulfilling its commitments: Pakistan envoy

New Delhi, Dec 20 (IANS) Pakistan’s top diplomat in India, Shahid Malik said that India was not fulfilling its commitments made in an agreement reached between the two South Asian neighbours to de-link composite talks from action on terrorism.
“Something that we agreed on, has not been acted upon,” the Pakistani high commissioner told Karan Thapar in an interview to be broadcast on CNN-IBN, referring to the joint statement in Sharm-el-Sheikh issed by Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
He said the “diplomatic vacuum” was only helping those elements who did not want both countries to talk to each other.
Shahid Malik defended his country’s pace of taking steps against the conspirators of the Mumbai terror attacks, stating that Pakistani investigators were looking for “credible” evidence to ensure a “foolproof” case.
The India-Pakistan joint statement at Sharm-el-Sheikh July 16 said: “Action on terrorism should not be linked to the composite dialogue process and these should not be bracketted”.
This statement had met with criticism in India, as it came after perceived tardiness of the Pakistani government in prosecuting the mastermind of Mumbai terror attack, especially Jamaat-ud-Dawa supremo Hafez Sayeed.
