December 2nd, 2009 - 12:30 am ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Dec 1 (IANS) While authorities in Kashmir stopped work on a mountainous road near the border with China after objections from the Chinese army, India Tuesday underlined that it wants to resolve all outstanding issues pertaining to China peacefully, particularly the border issue.
“The issues relating to the boundary question between India and China are in constant focus, as far as the government of India is concerned,” Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao told reporters here when asked about Beijing’s objection to a road along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
“There have also been measures that have been put in place to ensure peace and tranquility in the border areas and the building of the confidence between the border agencies on both sides,” she said.
“It remains our goal and our aim is to seek a peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues pertaining to India-China relations particularly the boundary question,” said Rao.
The authorities in Jammu and Kashmir said they had stopped construction of an eight-km road in the remote Demchok area of Buddhist-dominated Ladakh area near the LAC after objections from the Chinese army.
In Beijing, the Chinese foreign ministry Tuesday did not confirm or deny whether the Chinese army had raised objection to the construction of the border road by India.
“China has a dispute with India on the border issue. The two sides should work together to ensure peace and stability in the border area until the pending dispute is resolved,” Qin Gang, the foreign ministry spokesman told reporters.
