New Delhi, Jan 15 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Friday said India would provide $5 million in aid to Haiti where tens of thousands have been killed in a devastating earthquake.
Manmohan Singh expressed his solidarity with his Haitian counterpart Jean-Max Bellerive and the people of Haiti, which was hit by a 7.0 magnitude quake Tuesday.
“It is with profound sadness that we have learnt of the vast devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti Jan 12,” Manmohan Singh said in his condolence message.
“We would like to make an immediate cash donation of $5 million as a token of our solidarity,” he said.
“I would also like to convey our condolences to the injured and family members of those who have died. We have no doubt that the people of Haiti have the strength and resilience to overcome this natural disaster.”
On Thursday India announced $1 million in cash for immediate emergency relief in Haiti.
