Agra, March 26 (IANS) A fire in an Income Tax office building in Uttar Pradesh town of Agra Wednesday has destroyed valuable records. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained but official sources said electrical short-circuiting could be the reason.

The damage has been described as substantial. “The first floor of the building has been totally damaged,” said a fire brigade officer.

The army and Central Ordnance Depot fire fighters were pressed into the service along with the local fire brigade.

With just a few days for the current fiscal to end March 31, many vital documents have reportedly been lost. “All the important documents relating to recent raids, the vigilance papers and other sensitive papers could have been damaged on the first floor,” a source in the Income Tax department said.
