IIT Kanpur girl student commits suicide
November 17th, 2010 - 9:38 pm ICT by IANSKanpur, Nov 17 (IANS) A girl student of the premiere Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K), Wednesday committed suicide in her hostel room on the campus, police said.
“Madhuri Salve, aged around 22 years, a civil engineering student, was this (Wednesday) evening found hanging from the fan of her hostel room. Prima-facie, it clearly appears to be a case of suicide,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Lakshmi Narayan Mishra told reporters in Kanpur, 80 km from Lucknow.
“Investigations are on to establish what prompted the girl to take the extreme step,” he added.
IIT-K officials, who barred the entry of reporters in the institute following the incident, were not available for comments.
