The “virtual laboratory” is expected to provide infrastructure in laboratory research and induce confidence in students.
According to IIT officials, initial tests have been conducted on the “virtual laboratory” and, with a sanction of Rs.80 crore from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the system will benefit a large section of engineering students.
“It will help a number of students, but the number of students who can use the lab at a given time will be restricted. Apart from this, the lab will be available to all students,” M. Balakrishnan, deputy director of the faculty, said.
