IGNOU gets new web site on Republic Day
January 26th, 2012 - 4:27 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )New Delhi, Jan 26 (IANS) A new and improved web site of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), with easy access to regional centres, was inaugurated here Thursday.
Developed jointly by IANS and the varsity’s computer division, the inauguration was done by Vice Chancellor M. Aslam after unfurling the tricolour at the campus on Republic Day.
The web site has a better look, easier accessibility and more user-friendly.
“The sites have a unified structure and common format unlike earlier when the regional centre web sites were having different formats,” said Aslam.
The vice chancellor further said that all regional centres of IGNOU would soon have their own buildings.
“The university is planning to a 24-hour mini hospital with facilities like ENT, dental and cardiac treatment. We will soon have regular medical check-up of all employees to keep them healthy,” said Aslam.
IGNOU has a presence in 43 countries. The Universities of Berkley and Maryland in the US have shown interest in faculty exchange with IGNOU.
IGNOU, which started with two courses and 4,000 students in 1985, has evolved into one of the world’s largest varsities by offering about 450 programmes. It now has over three million students on its rolls.
