IAS officer Srilakshmi surrenders in court
January 6th, 2012 - 11:11 pm ICT by IANSHyderabad, Jan 6 (IANS) Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Y. Srilakshmi, whose bail was cancelled by the Andhra Pradesh High Court, surrendered before a court here Friday in the illegal mining case involving former Karnataka minister G. Janardhana Reddy.
She surrendered in the special CBI court after the Supreme Court rejected her petition to stay the high court order.
The special court remanded the bureaucrat to judicial custody till Jan 12. She was sent to Chanchalguda Central Jail.
Earlier, the Supreme Court, while refusing to stay the high court order, adjourned the hearing of her petition to Jan 16.
The high court on Jan 2 had cancelled her bail and had directed her to surrender before the special court by Jan 6.
The high court order came on a petition by the CBI. The special court had granted bail to Srilakshmi on Dec 2, a day after she was sent to jail.
Srilakshmi, who was family welfare commissioner at the time of her arrest by the CBI on Nov 28, was sent to CBI custody for three days. She was sent to jail on Dec 1 and was suspended by the state government the same day.
The 1988-batch IAS officer was secretary of industries in the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy government when Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) of Janardhana Reddy was granted leases for iron ore mining in Anantapur district.
She is the fourth accused in the case and is facing the allegations of showing favours to OMC in granting of leases.
Janardhana Reddy and his brother-in-law, B. V. Srinivasa Reddy are currently in jail in the illegal mining case.
