IAF helicopter shot at in Chhattisgarh, crew member killed

New Delhi, Nov 14 (IANS) A Mi-8 helicopter of the Indian Air Force (IAF) came under fire in Pedia in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh Friday, resulting in the death of one flight engineer, defence ministry officials said here.The helicopter was on election duty, on the first day of polling in Chhattisgarh. It was going from Pedia to Bijapur, carrying an injured trooper of the Border Security Force and an officer on election duty, when it came under fire at the helipad, the officials said.

The chopper’s pilot, Sqn Ldr T.K. Choudhury, managed to lift off and manouvre the helicopter to Jagdalpur, the officials said.
