Karachi, Nov 2 (IANS) Pakistan vice-captain Misbah-ul-Haq Sunday said he learnt a lot from former team coach Geoff Lawson, who was sacked last month by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over poor results.”He (Lawson) gave me a lot of confidence as coach. I learnt a lot from him,” Misbah was quoted as saying by ‘The News’.

The middle-order batsman made a successful return to the Pakistan team during Lawson’s 16-month stint as Pakistan coach.

Lawson, 50, was sacked last month by the PCB, holding him responsible for the team’s below-par performance. Former Pakistan captain Intikhab Alam was appointed as the new coach.

Misbah, 34, made his Test debut back in 2001 against New Zealand in Auckland but he only managed to make his presence felt on his comeback last year when he starred in Pakistan’s World Twenty20 Championship campaign in South Africa. Pakistan reached the final of the inaugural Twenty20 spectacle before losing to India in the final.

Misbah was one of the top performers of the competition and was later elevated as his team’s vice-captain.

Misbah said he and fellow Pakistan players are currently making the most of the Pentangular Cup matches, ahead of the three-match one-day series against the West Indies to be played in Abu Dhabi Nov 12-16.

“We are getting some good match practice by playing the Pentangular Cup games,” said Misbah.”The series against the West Indies will be a good opportunity for us and hopefully we will do well in it.”
