I just accept the best options: Narayani Shastri (With Images)
April 9th, 2012 - 8:04 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, April 9 (IANS) She is just 33, but Narayani Shastri is playing a mother to a grown up girl in forthcoming TV show “Phir Subah Hogi”. The actress explains that she takes up the best options from whatever is available.
“I have a very limited thought process. I don’t think what the audience will think or where the project in the bigger picture lies. I follow my gut instinct and get started,” Narayani told IANS.
She has spent over a decade in the industry and rues that makers just follow a pattern and that she has to choose from available options.
“TV industry in India has always followed a pattern. Either there are saas-bahu serials or stupid comedy shows. Now it is the regional tale. If a person makes a show, it works and then others follow,” said Narayani.
“I don’t like this but I cannot sit like a princess and ask them to make a good show, then only I will work. So I am just taking up the best option,” she added.
Last seen in “Namak Haraam” on Real TV as the lead, she will pllay Raai dancer Gulabia in “Phir Subah Hogi”, which is said to be based on the real life story. The show will go live on Zee TV April 17 and narrate the story of the Bedia tribe of Madhya Pradesh’s Bundelkhand region.
Narayani considers herself lucky to get the role where she could challenge herself as an actor.
“After doing an amazing project like ‘Namak Haraam’, I just could not make myself do a saas-bahu. But I liked my character, the storyline is good and moreover, the project challenged me in every possible way - the language is different, the character is also very strange, the look is so different,” she said.
In the show Narayani’s character is caught between the whirlpool of societal norms and her daughter, who wants to break free from all customs.
The actress made her TV debut on Doordarshan with “Kahani Saat Pheron Ki” and later went on to do shows like “Piya Ka Ghar”, “Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi” and “Mamta”.
The actress admits she is not a method actor and added: “I don’t sit and think that I will move my hands and give a particular kind expression. There are actors who do that, I don’t because that confuses me. I read the script and be natural when I shoot a scene.”
